About the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry includes 20 faculty members who are active in physical, theoretical, analytical, organic and inorganic chemistry. Graduate studies are carried out through the (GWC)2 partnership with the University of Waterloo, one of the largest, best recognized chemistry graduate programs in Canada. Undergraduate offerings cover a full range of programs, many with both regular and co-op streams.

The Department is home of the new Electrochemical Technology Center, and the Molecular and Materials Synthesis Group. The new biological chemistry undergraduate program is a major success.

In 2005, Professor Jacek Lipkowski was awarded the Pergamon Gold Medal for Electrochemistry, the worlds premier electrochemical award. University Professor Emeritus Bryan Henry is President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the largest Chemical Society in the World. Research grants in Chemistry totalled 2M$ in 2005.
