SimEnzyme

The enzyme kinetics tutorial program as used in the lab 5 exercise is available for you to download and try out on your own. You may download your own copy of the program if you are accessing this site on your own computer. Computers in public pools such as the library will probably not allow download of executable programs.

Depending on your web browser settings, the browser may run the program directly or allow you to save the SimEnzyme.exe file. Your browser may warn you that SimEnzyme.exe has no authenticode "signature". You may ignore this warning and proceed with downloading or running the program.

If you wish to save a copy of SimEnzyme.exe and your browser runs the program, hold down the Shift key when you click on the link, and you can then save the program onto your own computer. When saving, take careful note of the folder location where the program is being saved. Then go open that folder and click on the SimEnzyme.exe icon to run the program.

To make measurements from the graphs, click the mouse pointer on any point on the graphs, and hold the mouse button down. You will see a cross-hair mark on the screen showing the x and y coordinates of the centre of the cross.

The program will also generate plots with unknown KM and Vmax or unknown inhibition conditions for you to try to determine by measuring x and y intercepts.

Help - there's nothing plotted on my graph!

You need to reset one or both of the scales.

If the graph is totally empty, move the slider scale controls towards the right to decrease magnification.

If there are plot points running up the y axis, increase the horizontal magnification (move horizontal scale slider to left).

If plot points are crowded on the x axis, increase the vertical magnification (move vertical scale slider to left).
