Enriched Science and Math Program (MPC2)

Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Dept. of Physics

College of Physical and Engineering Science

University of Guelph

This is the first course in physics and chemistry for students in the Enriched Science and Math (formerly MPC2) program here at the University Guelph. The course is team-taught by a chemist and a physicist and deals first of all with the fundamental forces and particles found in nature. This is followed with an introduction to quantum mechanics and how it finds a role in explaining atomic and molecular properties such as bonding and spectroscopy. Finally, the structure of materials in the solid state is introduced, looking at crystal structure and the properties of some solids.
