Following the course IPS*1100 "Structure of Matter", students in the interdisciplinary Enriched Science and Math (MPC2) program here at the University of Guelph take this course. The focus here is to provide a solid foundation in General Chemistry which will allow the students to proceed to their second year, focusing their studies either in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computing, Math, Physics, or Statistics. The emphasis is on chemical equations and reactions, acid-base equilibria, thermochemistry, redox chemistry, and an introduction to organic chemistry. Atomic structure, introductory quantum mechanics, and molecular orbital theory were all taken as part of the "Structure of Matter" course. Follow these links here to view a more complete course description, to complete the weekly quizzes, to view the answers to the quizzes, or to learn more about the Enriched Science and Math (MPC2) program.
