ANSWER

Well, we are now in Mexico City. Our trip so far has been very exciting and
interesting. We left San Diego and entered Mexico at Tijuana. Then we
travelled down through Baja California and took a ferry over to the mainland to
the town of Topolobampo. We took a trip by train through the Copper Canyon
area, in the direction of Chihuahua. The Copper Canyon is a very large canyon,
similar to the Grand Canyon in the U.S. We stopped in the mountains at a little
town called Creel (can you find it on a map of Mexico?) where we stayed for a
few days and did some cycling high up in the mountains. Then we travelled to
the southeast to the city of Zacatecas, an old colonial mining town with many
nice buildings and museums. Then we travelled south to the large city of
Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico (do you know what is the largest
city in Mexico?) Then we travelled east through the state of Michoacan, a very
mountainous and beautiful state, before arriving in Mexico City.
Tomorrow we will leave Mexico City and travel southeast to the states of Oaxaca
and Chiapas and then travel north into the states of Campeche and Yucatan. We
will enter Central America through Belize.

We have been drinking purified water that we buy in bottles or water that we
purify with our water filter. We can't drink the tap water directly as you can
in San Diego. Here, the tap water may have bacteria and other things in it that
may make us sick. We have to be careful.

We have met many nice people here in Mexico. People are very interested to know
where we come from, where we are going, and why we are travelling by bicycle!
Many people have offered us a place to sleep and food to eat. The Mexican
people are very friendly and helpful to us.

We have had nothing stolen, though we have to be careful in the large cities,
just as we were in the large cities of the U.S. and Canada. We use strong
locks for our bicycles.

For the most part, the weather has been warm and sunny, with cool nights in the
mountains. We have had very little rain.

It is hard to say what our favourite place has been. Mexico is a country of
many different faces - so far, we have travelled through deserts, coastal
plains, mountains and mountain valleys. There have been many beautiful places
along the way.

We are glad you like the photos that are on our Web page. We have sent some
more back to Canada. They should be put on our Web page within a month or two.

In the meantime, we hope you are all having a fun school year. We wish you all
a happy holiday season.

Chris and Natalie
